After 30 years of active practice with the Firm, Greg is transitioning to retirement as he works to conclude pending projects and, to the extent possible, transition new projects to other Firm attorneys.
Greg continues to be a member of the Firm's Tax and Transactions practice team, where he practiced with an emphasis on business, estate planning, estate administration and trusts. He handled cases involving business, farm and ranch organization, reorganization and operation, including corporations, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships and limited partnerships, along with real estate transactions of many varieties and variations, keeping in mind the various tax aspects overlying the topic areas. Greg continues to mentor younger attorneys. He was an elected Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) but is now retired. He is licensed to practice in Montana and has served as President and is a member of what is now the Business, Estates, Trusts, Tax and Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Montana. Greg has also served as President of the Cascade Estate Planning Council.
Greg is honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. He received a B.A. degree with majors in Economics and Political Science and a minor in English from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, in 1970. Three years later, he graduated from University of North Dakota School of Law, Grand Forks, North Dakota, with a J.D. degree. He completed his LLM (Taxation) from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C., in 1978.
Following graduation from the University of North Dakota, Greg served as a law clerk for the North Dakota Supreme Court. An honors appointment led him to the United States Department of Justice, Tax Division, Washington, D.C., as a trial attorney. He tried lawsuits in federal district courts, mostly in the southeastern portion of the country, representing the United States of America on various income, estate and excise tax issues.
Greg joined Church, Harris, Johnson & Williams in January of 1978 where he has worked since that time in various capacities from associate attorney to partner to shareholder and officer. He served as President of the firm from 1993 through 2000.
Since becoming part of the Great Falls Community, Greg has been active in many community organizations - as a member of the Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce, Past President of what was then known as the Committee of 80, a group of private businessmen that supported Malmstrom Air Force Base, participated in the Co-Commander Program at Malmstrom where civilians are paired with senior leadership, served as one of two civilian members from Malmstrom Air Force Base on the Commander’s Group for then Air Force Space Command, Colorado Springs, Colorado, before Malmstrom AFB joined Global Strike Command. Greg is also a past Board member on his church's Foundation and a member of the Church Council, is a past Board member of the Great Falls Development Authority, is a current member of the Advisory Board of Directors for First Interstate Bank of Great Falls, was 2003 President of Meadow Lark Country Club, and currently serves on the board of the Great Falls Clinic Legacy Foundation.
Greg and Deb were married in 1970. They have two wonderful, beautiful and successful daughters. Greg enjoys hunting, shooting, fast cars and an active retirement.
